DA KIKOKIKO

PLAYA VISTA, CA - RESTAURANT

The restaurants goal was to combine a twist on traditionally served poke’ bowls within a modern day environment. Customers are welcomed into the restaurant by a wall of tropical plants, a tongue and cheek color palette based on Pacific Ocean hues, and a new take on a mid century breeze block wall. Instead of installing as simple stacked block, the wall was assembled a collage / installation created from a common building material. Sorrounded by the pitched oak paneled ceiling, we created a space within a space; the kitchen itself was a referential nod to the traditional Hawaiian Poke Shack. With a limited 850 square feet to work with, a creative seating solution was found with custom cantilevered table tops and a long bench seat. Adding comfort and texture, bench cushions show off a custom graphic pattern created for Da Kikokiko, a modern take on the native Hawaiian textile art, called Kapa.
