1725 sf. 55-seat restaurant in the J.W. Robinson Building (Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument #357) along heart of LA’s Restaurant Row.
A limited number of industrial materials we employed to tie this SugarFISH location to its urban environment: including wire glass, reclaimed oak, and steel hardware. Most evident is the centerpiece, a thirty-five foot stretch of wall covered in over 5,000 feet of undulating, hand-bent pipe that references a topographical map of Tokyo Bay. Circular cutouts in the ceiling expose the existing structural concrete columns and intricate ceiling structure, which date back to 1915.
The space’s service stations are carefully crafted with an oak chevron pattern, while the table and chairs showcase the aesthetic properties of wood. Each tabletop includes a single block of end-grain wood incenter creating an organic, rhythmic pattern
